Weight Loss Benefits of Tea

Weight Loss Benefits of Tea

Melt Belly Fat

Lose 5 Pounds in 6 Weeks

A recent research study, published in the medical journal Anticancer Research, suggested that the Oolong tea happened to stop the growth of breast cancer cells and the extract hampered the DNA of the cancer cells, while also inhibiting the growth and progression of tumors. The scientists also compared effects green tea and black tea. Green tea was also found to be very effective. However, black and dark tea had little effect on the cells, noted the study.

From our results, oolong tea, much like green tea, plays a role in inhibiting breast cancer cell growth, proliferation and tumor progression, said one of the researchers from St. Louis University in Missouri. Just like green tea oolong tea could also induce DNA damage and cleavage, which can play an inhibitory role in breast cancer cell growth, proliferation and tumorigenesis. Scientists revealed that oolong has great potential as a chemo-preventive agent against breast cancer.

The researchers also analyzed the rates of breast cancer and deaths from the disease across China. The findings suggested that regions with high oolong tea consumption had generally lower rates of the disease. The incidence of breast cancer in the Fujian province was 35 percent lower than the national average. The death rate of high consumers of oolong tea in Fijian was 68 per cent lower than the national average, findings further revealed. "The lower incidence and mortality in regions with higher oolong tea consumption indicate that the tea has great potential for its anti-cancer properties," said lead author Chunfa Huang, Associate Research Professor at the St. Louis University in Missouri.

On a side-note, the researchers also said that prevention and early diagnosis is crucial to prevent such incidences.

Benefits of Drinking Oolong Tea:
1. Oolong tea is a good source of catechins, which could help melt belly fat. A study, published in Chinese Journal of Integrative Medicine, said that people who sipped the tea daily lost up to two kilograms of weight in six weeks.
2. Oolong tea is a good source of antioxidants, which help keep free radical activity under control.
3. Oolong tea could do wonders for your heart health and keep your cholesterol levels balanced.
4. Several components of the tea could also help improve brain function and memory.
5. The antioxidants present in the tea could help keep your bone and tooth strong.

Weight Loss Foods

High-fiber foods you should eat to lose weight.
High-fiber foods you should eat to improve health.

Turns out our elders were right after all, vegetables and fruits are even healthier than we thought. A study commissioned by the World Health Organization (WHO) suggests that eating a diet high in fiber and whole grains could help reduce your risk of heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and other chronic diseases. High-fiber foods are filling, increasing your feeling of fullness after a meal without raising your blood sugar or adding calories. And, they are among the most powerful foods when it comes to weight loss. They literally burn belly fat and help in our weight loss goals.

According to the study, published in The Lancet, total deaths and incidences of heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and colo-rectal cancer fell by 5 to 27 per cent for every 8 gram increase in dietary fiber eaten a day. Protection against stroke and breast cancer also increased. The study found that consuming 25g to 29g of dietary fiber each day was adequate to reap the benefits but higher intakes of the nutrient could provide even greater health protection. However, the research also found that most people worldwide do not eat enough dietary fiber, consuming less than 20g of fiber a day.

“Our findings provide convincing evidence for nutrition guidelines to focus on increasing dietary fiber and on replacing refined grains with whole grains. This reduces incidence risk and mortality from a broad range of important diseases,” said Jim Mann, who co-led the research and a professor at the University of Otago, New Zealand.

Here are five high-fiber foods that can help you trim belly fat and reduce your risk of heart disease, stroke, diabetes, among other chronic diseases.

1. Artichoke
2. Beans
3. Bananas
4. Carrots
5. Spinach

High fiber diets make for healthier lives
People who eat lots of high-fiber and whole grain foods have lower risk of heart disease, stroke, diabetes and other chronic diseases than people whose diets are low in fiber, a study commissioned by the World Health Organization (WHO) says.

For every 8 gram increase in fiber eaten a day, total deaths and incidences of heart disease, type 2 diabetes and bowel cancer fell by 5 % to 27 %, the study said. Protection against stroke and breast cancer also rose.

A good target for those wanting to reap health gains would be to eat 25gram to 29gram of dietary fiber a day, the analysis found. But the data, published in a series of systematic reviews and meta-analyzes in The Lancet medical journal, also suggested higher dietary fiber intakes could give even greater protection.

“Our findings provide convincing evidence for nutrition guidelines to focus on increasing dietary fiber and on replacing refined grains with whole grains. This reduces incidence risk and mortality from a broad range of important diseases,” said Jim Mann, a professor at the University of Otago, New Zealand who co-led the research study.

According to the research study, most people worldwide currently consume less than 20gram of dietary fiber a day. In Britain in 2015, an advisory committee on nutrition recommended an increase in dietary fiber intake to 30gram a day, but only 9 % of British adults manage to reach this target. In the United States, fiber intake among adults averages 15gram a day.

Mann said the health benefits of dietary fiber, contained in foods such as whole grains, pulses, vegetables and fruit, come from its chemistry, physical properties, physiology and its effects on human metabolism.

“Fiber-rich whole foods that require chewing and retain much of their structure in the gut increase satiety and help weight control, He said. “(And) the breakdown of fiber in the large bowel by the resident bacteria has additional wide-ranging effects including protection from colo-rectal cancer.”

Smoothies for Weight Loss
All you need to know.
Benefits, consequences and risks.
Smoothie Diets are becoming very popular for weight loss these days. Here is how you can practice the diet, its effects on your body, benefits, and risks.
Smoothies has become extremely popular these days and is both a weight-loss and body cleanse diet. Smoothie Diet is a diet where one only drinks fruit and vegetable juices, sans the fiber, and other clean liquids like water and tea.

Smoothies is believed to help manage weight as it gives the digestive system a break, and makes it easier to absorb the nutrients present in the juices. Fruit and vegetable juices are rich in vitamins, minerals, and phyto-nutrients, which are considered essential for the body and helpful in the process of weight loss.

Benefits of the Smoothies Diet
Fruit and Vegetable juices contain a lot of vitamins, minerals and phyto-nutrients which are essential for the body. These help in building better immunity in the body, remove toxins and cleanse the body, and also better digestion. Apart from these functions, Smoothies are also beneficial in weight loss as it helps to keep the body light, hydrated, and nourished. Some people also believe that Smoothies can prevent cancer, though there is no study that has proven this yet.

How to practice the Smoothies Diet?
Though your plan of Smoothies will determine exactly how you go about it, here is a basic structure for practicing the Smoothies Diet. You can pick organic vegetables and fruits, since they are believed to have fewer chemicals and pesticides on them, or just the regular ones according to availability, prices, and the length of the period for which you plan to fast. Try including more vegetable juices in your diet than fruit juices, to ensure that your body is provided with all the nutrients you require.

Consequences of the Smoothies Diet
The Smoothies Diet, just like any other diet, will have consequences on your body. Since you go absolutely off solid or even semi-solid food, your body is likely to experience fatigue and tiredness in the initial days since your body is not used to functioning on such little diet. In extreme cases, it can lead to severe diarrhea, low blood pressure, and extreme dizziness.

Risks of the Smoothies Diet

The Smoothies Diet is not one of the best diets as recommended by doctors and there seem to be reasons for the same. Smoothie Diets are not considered the safest diet as intake of only juices can lead to problems of under-nutrition in the body. Another health risk that is very likely to be faced is that of weight gain, instead of loss as juices contain a lot of natural sugar. You should be very specific about which juice you incorporate in your diet to ensure that you do not gain weight. This sugar can also lead to disturbance in the blood sugar levels of the body. Young children, pregnant women, older people and people with weak immune systems should avoid the Smoothies Diet.

The analysis of 41 eating plans also gave the Mediterranean diet the top spot in several subcategories: best diet for healthy eating, best plant-based diet, best diet for diabetes and easiest diet to follow. If you're a fan of the Mediterranean diet, get ready to do a victory dance. For the first time, the Mediterranean diet has won the gold as 2019's best overall diet in rankings announced Wednesday by US News and World Report.

The diet features simple, plant-based cooking, with the majority of each meal focused on fruits and vegetables, whole grains, beans and seeds, with a few nuts and a heavy emphasis on extra virgin olive oil. Say goodbye to refined sugar and flour except on rare occasions. Fats other than olive oil, such as butter, are consumed rarely, if at all. The high accolades are not surprising, as numerous studies found the diet can reduce the risk for diabetes, high cholesterol, dementia, memory loss, depression and breast cancer. Meals from the sunny Mediterranean region have also been linked to stronger bones, a healthier heart and longer life. Oh, and weight loss, too.

Meat can make a rare appearance, usually only to flavor a dish. Instead, meals may include eggs, dairy and poultry, but in much smaller portions than in the traditional Western diet. Fish, however, are a staple.

To judge the diets, a panel of experts in heart disease and diabetes, nutrition, diet, food psychology and obesity reviewed research about the diets from medical journals, government reports and other resources.

In 2018, the top spot for best overall diet was a tie between the Mediterranean diet and the DASH diet, which stands for dietary approaches to stop hypertension, or high blood pressure. This year, DASH came in second, with third place going to the flexitarian diet, a plant-based diet that allows meat on rare occasions.

The lowest-ranked overall diets were the Dukan diet, the Body Reset diet, the Whole30 diet and the popular keto diet, which all focus on high-protein or high-fat foods with minimal carbohydrates.

These habits also increase your chances of developing serious health conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes, diabetes, and some cancers, etc. Hence, the market is flooded with a wide range of fat loss supplements and fitness products.

Yoga can help you lose weight, reduce belly fat while improving your overall health. Yoga, if performed everyday, can do wonders for both your mind and the body. This InternationalDay of Yoga, which is celebrated each year on June 21 across the globe, take a look at how yoga can help you shed excess fat from your entire body and stay fit.

1. Tadasana or Mountain Pose
To do this yoga pose, stand straight with your ankles apart and hang your arms behind your torso. Balance your body weight on your body after raising your ankles and landing them on the floor. As you inhale, lift your ankles and release your shoulder blades away from your head. This asana involves all major muscles and is the foundation of most asanas.

2. Vrikshasana or Tree Pose
This asana starts with putting your right leg high up on your left thigh. After you maintain a steady balance, inhale slowly and join your palms together above your head. It is meant to strengthen the feet and back.

This is one of the simplest asanas. It starts with sitting cross-legged, i.e. with left leg on the right thigh and right leg on the left thigh. Keep your spine straight and put your hands on your knees, (join the tip of your index finger with the tip of your thumb). This is an asana which is ideal for meditation. It not only strengthens the spine but also relaxes the entire body.

5. Paschimottanasana or Seated Forward Bend

Health Fitness And Vitamin D

Health Fitness And Vitamin D

Study shows magnesium optimizes vitamin D status.
A randomized trial by Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center researchers indicates that magnesium optimizes vitamin D status, raising it in people with deficient levels and lowering it in people with high levels.

The study reported in the December issue of The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition is important because of controversial findings from ongoing research into the association of vitamin D levels with colo-rectal cancer and other diseases, including a recent report from the VITAL trial. It gave confirmation to a prior observational study in 2013 by the researchers that linked low magnesium levels with low vitamin D levels.

The trial also revealed something new—that magnesium had a regulating effect in people with high vitamin D levels. The research provides the first evidence that magnesium may play an important role in optimizing vitamin D levels and preventing conditions related to vitamin D levels.

Qi Dai, MD, Ph.D., Ingram Professor of Cancer Research, the study's lead author, described the ideal level as being in the middle range of a U-shape because vitamin D at this level has been linked to the lowest risk of cardiovascular disease in previous observational studies.

However, vitamin D was not related to cardiovascular disease in the recent VITAL trial. He and Martha Shrubsole, Ph.D., research professor of Medicine, Division of Epidemiology, are investigating the role that magnesium may play with cancer as part of the Personalized Prevention of Colo-rectal Cancer Trial.

"There's a lot of information being debated about the relationship between vitamin D and colo-rectal cancer risk that is based upon observational studies versus clinical trials," Shrubsole said. "The information is mixed thus far."

They became interested in a role for magnesium because people synthesize vitamin D differently with levels of the vitamin in some individuals not rising even after being given high dosage supplements.

"Magnesium deficiency shuts down the vitamin D synthesis and metabolism pathway," Dai said.

The randomized study involved 250 people considered at risk for developing colorectal cancer because of either risk factors or having a precancerous polyp removed. Doses of magnesium and placebo were customized based on baseline dietary intake.

"Vitamin D insufficiency is something that has been recognized as a potential health problem on a fairly large scale in the U.S.," Shrubsole said. "A lot of people have received recommendations from their health care providers to take vitamin D supplements to increase their levels based upon their blood tests. In addition to vitamin D, however, magnesium deficiency is an under-recognized issue. Up to 80 percent of people do not consume enough magnesium in a day to meet the recommended dietary allowance (RDA) based on those national estimates."

Shrubsole stressed that the magnesium levels in the trial were in line with RDA guidelines, and she recommended dietary changes as the best method for increasing intake. Foods with high levels of magnesium include dark leafy greens, beans, whole grains, dark chocolate, fatty fish such as salmon, nuts and avocados.

Diabetes and Healthy Foods
Food Swaps: White Bread Vs Dried Fruits
Eating dried fruits such as dates, apricots, raisins and sultanas may not spike blood sugar compared to starchy foods such as white bread, suggests a study.
"People often worry about sources of sugar, and fruits are one of them. But most fruits, in particular tender fruit, have a low glycemic index and what we're showing here is dried fruits also have a lower glycemic index, so they don't raise your blood sugar very much," said John Sievenpiper from Toronto's St. Michael's Hospital.
"This study finds that people can use dried fruits as a low glycemic index food source to replace higher glycemic index foods. So, as a snack food, dried fruit is going to be preferred to a grain-based cracker or snack," he added.

The study, published in the journal Nutrition and Diabetes, compared the glycemic response of four dried fruits dates, apricots, raisins and sultanas to white bread in a small group of healthy participants. The study finds that people can use dried fruits as a low glycemic index food source to replace higher glycemic index foods.
Dried fruit can be beneficial for diabetics.
Dried fruit can lower glycemic response of white bread.
Starchy foods like bread can increase blood glucose and insulin.
Dried fruit is healthy for diabetics.

They found that the fruit had a lower glycemic index and could lower the glycemic response of white bread through displacement of half of the available carbohydrate.
The glycemic index is a way of explaining how different carbohydrates affect blood glucose and can help find out which foods are best for people with diabetes.
Foods high on the glycemic index such as white bread, most breakfast cereals, potatoes and rice produce a spike in blood glucose and insulin. On the other hand, the carbohydrates in low glycemic index foods including pasta, beans, lentils and certain whole grains such as barley and oats are broken down more slowly, and cause more moderate increases in blood glucose and insulin.

The study also suggested that there's potential for food manufacturers to develop low glycemic index foods with reformulations that include dried fruits. However, longer and larger randomized trials will be needed to confirm whether dried fruits can contribute to sustainable improvements in glycemic control, and whether other dried fruits have a similar glycemic index, Sievenpiper stated.
